Are you interested in helping grow soccer locally? I hear the question many times a season, “What can I do to help out?” Well, here is a way that may interest you. My friend Michael Farmer put out this call for help earlier this year on his Facebook page and I wanted to bring it up again as high school season looms around the corner. This opportunity is extended for high school officials as well.
Per Michael’s Facebook post: The DC Inferno club soccer program in Ft Payne is growing rapidly. We had 3-4 competitive soccer teams last season and it has grown to 8 this season. The future is very bright and in the years to come we plan to add more competitive teams in even more age groups. With this growth in mind, the need for officials to call our home games is getting even more important. We are in the process of building a local referee pool to cover these local games first and then to help cover games in other places. Once certified, there are plenty of tournaments that you could go to and make from $200.00 to $300.00 in a weekend depending on how many games you want to do. We need your help to continue to grow this program.
To add to it from the High School official side as well, there is a shortage of officials in almost every sport. The officials that remain get exhausted pretty quickly as they work night after night after their day jobs to get games covered. We can get you in touch with the correct association to train you and help with your certification and eventually assign you to games. It’s a serious job that pays well, but it is also a great way to get to watch a lot of soccer in our county and surrounding counties.
Club training opportunities are being added as soon as Nov. 14 with the location TBD. High School opportunities are right around the corner as well. Please contact us through this website, Facebook, or just catch us at the field next week and let’s get you pointed in the right direction.
